Tenerife, the biggest Canary island is on Atlantic ocean,
about 100 km form north-west Africa coast. It belongs to Spain.
In the Tenerife is the highest point of Spain - Pico de Teide (3718 m n.p.m.).
Seven on thirteen islands are big: Tenerife, Hierro, Gomera, La Palma, Gran Canaria, Lanzarote,
Fuerteventura the other six smaller islands are uninhabited.
All of them came up in volcanic eruption so there is rough terrain.
The area of Tenerife is more then 2000 km2.
The island population is above 700 000 residents where 1/3 of them lives in capitol - Santa Cruz.
The cities from Los Christianos and Playa Americas through Medano ,Gumar, Candelarię ,
and capitol as far as Puerto de La Cruz, are connected by highway /maximum speed allowed: 120km/h/.
The route from south of the island to capitol /for example from Los Christianos to Santa Cruz/ takes by car about 40 minutes,
and then to Puerto Cruz next 30 minutes.
Other roads to inland of the isle and near Puerto Cruz, Icod, through Masca to Adeje
are roads with good surface and are secured from slipping but there are big grades.
In some places /it is signed/ are exposed ona falling.
Climat on Tenerife is subtropical with sea features. It is called everlasting spring because of
constant gentle wind from Atlantic.
During whole year the air temperature is between 20 - 28 Celcius degrees,
ocean temperature is few degrees lower 18 - 23 Celcius degrees.
High volcanic massif split Tenerife on two fundamentally different areas.
The south of the island is scorching and barren, because the air form Africe comes there.
North-west side is humid and a little bit colder
which favour to spread flora.
In Icod on north side grows specific /endemic/ form of juka - dragon tree,
which is recognized as a symbol of three islands.
Na całej wyspie wyraźnie zaznacza się piętrowość roślinna, typowa dla klimatu zwrotnikowego.
To about 800 meters above sea level there is half-desert flora, to 2000 m a.s.l. pine forest,
above them are coming up shrubs and highmountain flora.
On island cultivation of banana, citrus trees, vine, candy cane and vegetables is very popular.
People here are also fishing to earn money.
